Outcome of European Network Meeting

Background
On the 18th July, NAWO and the WNC organised a meeting entitled "Europe: What has happened to the social model and how will women be affected?" Assessing the impact that the social and economic models of Europe will have on women, the meeting enabled those gathered to identify key lobbying points for the presidency.
A letter from NAWO, with full support from the WNC, has been sent to Prime Minister Tony Blair and this can be downloaded here

Please feel free to adapt this letter and send your own version to Tony Blair, in order to highlight how important the issues are to women in the UK and across Europe. If you take this lobbying action, please send on your letter head, mentioning you are a member of NAWO, if relevant, and please remember to send us a copy of the letter.

Draft Iraqi Constitution and Women's Rights

Background
Iraqi women's organisations and civil society groups fear that the new Iraqi constitution will erode women's rights. The most recent draft of the Constitution expressly state that Sharia law will be the main source of legislation. In the earlier interim constitution, Sharia law was referred to as an important source of legislation but not as the main one.

Big Debate about Europe needed!
