OCS and the Big Society

NAWO was appalled to learn of the Government’s decision to choose nine strategic partners to work with the OCS to implement the Big Society that had no experience in working with issues of equality between men and women.

NAWO and many other organisations sent a letter to the Prime Minister and Minister to register our dismay on this matter.

We will keep you updated on any outcomes in regards to this issue.

A new gender architecture?
Click on the link below to access a copy of the draft document (updated now, 28 November, with some comments received) for ideas surrounding a new gender architecture.

This document is a work in progress- we need as many women's organisations and interested women to respond so we may incorporate comments and prepare a model in time for the GEO major consultation to be held in the New Year.

If you have any helpful comments please send them to

The European Women's Lobby has defined six main themes with strategic objectives and concrete actions to be undertaken by the European Commission between 2006 and 2010.  These themes are partly inspired by strategic objectives of the UN Beijing Platform for Action (1995).  The responses to Paying the Price have been incorporated into the UK government's new framework for tackling prostitution.

Home Office Consultation on Prostitution
The Home Office published 'Paying the Price: a consultation paper on Prostitution' in July 2004. To respond to 'Paying the price', NAWO consulted with its members by sending out a questionnaire and holding a meeting for debate and discussion.
