Background information

it is well documented that trafficking in women for prostitution happens in most European countries and media reports have predicted that 40 000 prostitutes were expected to go to Germany during the World Cup, adding to the already large sex industry in the country. It is certain that some women will have been lured through false promises or coerced into sexual exploitation.

In Germany, women's organisations, trade unions and church groups have raised questions about this, and the German national team and the German Football Federation have been asked to denounce trafficking and sexual exploitation publicly.
